Living by the Promises
2 Peter 1:1-4

1) There are some things that God want you to have… through the knowledge of Him
a) Grace – v.2
i) all the things that are given to us because of the sacrifice of Christ
b) Peace – v.2
i) Rest, comes from the knowledge of what you have gained
c) All things that pertain to life – v.3
i) How to live in wisdom to make right decisions – that give peace and success
d) All things that pertain to godliness – v.3
i) To make godly decisions, live in a godly manner
e) Partakers of the divine nature – v.4
i) To become the person God intends for you to be
ii) To escape the corruption that comes through lust (longing for the world)
iii) 2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2) God has given us promises
a) Promises build confidence (faith) and eliminate doubt that destroys peace
i) Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
b) Promises give direction and focus
c) God’s Word is filled with promises
i) Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
d) God has a promise for your every fear
i) When you have afflictions
(1) Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
ii) Burdens
(1) Psalms 145:14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
iii) Depression
(1) Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
iv) Fear
(1) Psalms 27:1 <<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
v) Loneliness
(1) Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
vi) Key to financial success / peace
(1) Psalms 37:21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
vii) Needs
(1) Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
viii) Patience in living for God
(1) Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
ix) When we feel like quitting
(1) 2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
x) Suffering
(1) Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
xi) Worry
(1) Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
3) God has equipped up through His Word & Promises for grace, peace, life, godliness, become Christ-like
a) Choose to believe
b) You can either live by what you see or what God has said
i) Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
