SERMON NOTES
Title: Bold Faith…When God Calls Your Bluff
Passage: Matthew 14:22-33
Do you remember being a kid and the binding contract that was a “Double Dog Dare”? When you were Double Dog Dared to do something, there was no option to back out. It HAD to be done!
This morning we are going to Double Dog Dare an adult to drink our infamous Redneck Smoothie. Some survive, some do not! Let’s see what happens this morning.
Ultimately a Double Dog Dare is where you have to make a decision to follow through or to back out. To be bold or to be called out on your bluff.
Matthew 14:22-33
Have you ever wondered what it might have looked like to be caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee? Watch this video to catch a glimpse into how rough the waters can get on this small but treacherous body of water. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GloffUv0xKk
Application:
1. Peter called out to Jesus (v 28)
Without that initial call to Jesus, Peter may have missed a chance to be involved in something incredible!
2. Jesus answered him (v 29)
Fear is included when we follow Jesus because it’s He calls us to the unknown
Boldness isn’t doing something without fear, but often doing it in spite of fear!
3. Peter’s response was to be BOLD (v 29)
Your response to God’s call determines whether you will be BOLD or BLUFF
4. Sometimes our boldness falters because doubts and distractions set it. (v 30-31)
Peter WAS bold, then lost faith. However, Jesus rescues him and will rescue us if we falter while trying to be bold.
