Big Idea: God wants our full attention

Teaching Points:
a) We will all find ourselves in desert places sometimes

b) You can never change your past; you have to deal with your past

c) God always seems distant in the desert

d) Everything is holy

e) Sometimes God doesn’t change the world around us, but changes us to see a different world

f) What changes Moses is an actual, direct encounter with God, not more information about God

g) God seems so hard, and sometimes even impossible, to find in the desert, so how do we have an encounter like Moses?

h) How long would you have to stare at a burning bush before you can say for certain that it isn’t burning up?

i) God placed something intriguing in the path of Moses’ everyday life to call him to an extraordinary life

j) Moses didn’t receive God’s guidance and direction until he gave Him his full attention

k) We will never get to God’s destination until He has our full attention

2. Has God ever spoken to you through a burning bush-like encounter? Do you think it’s possible you’ve ever missed God’s attempts to get your attention?

3. Have you ever been in a desert place before? Are you in one now? What was/is it like? How might God be trying to get your attention today?

4. How might you give God your full attention this week? Who can help you to focus in on God?
