1. Icebreaker: If you have inherited something from a loved one, what is your favorite possession or item you have inherited and why? If you could inherit anything in the world what would it be?

2. What insight, principle, or observation from Sunday’s sermon/message did you find to be most helpful, eye opening, or troubling?

3. The Beatitudes refer to blessed attitudes and “Blessed” means happy. How is it in Jesus’ 3rd beatitude he connects happiness to meekness? How is meekness an important attribute to Jesus or an essential attribute for kingdom living?

4. Read Matthew 5:5. What images come to your mind when you think of “meekness?” How do you think Jesus demonstrated meekness? Give an example from his life on earth when he modeled being meek.

5. Since meekness isn’t weakness, but strength under control (like a bridled stallion), how do you demonstrate such meekness in your relationships? Give an example of when you were meek.

6. Read Matthew 11:28-29. The word meek and gentle are used interchangeably. Surrendering to Jesus is the key to biblical meekness. How does this invitation by Jesus in these verses help you practice meekness?

7. What is the 21st century connotation given someone who is considered “meek?” What is flexible within you and what is rigid within you? Can you think of any times Jesus refused to listen? How is being open to listen to others a sign of meekness?

8. How could “inheriting the earth” be seen as a reference to controlling yourself or your actions?

9. How can our group pray for you this week?
