We are going to take a 2 week break from our study of I Timothy and look at this question, “Is America a Christian Nation?”

MYTH #1: The Founding Fathers were Deist and Atheists.

Definition:
An atheist is one who denies the existence of God, while a deist believes God created the world but left it to its own end.
In other words, Atheist ignore God and Deist believe God ignores people.
If the founding Fathers were deist and atheists, then prayer, references to the Bible and comments to or about a personal God should be
non-existence or hostile if at all in their writings. But the fact of the matter
is that the writing of our founding fathers are filled with Biblical references, with prayer, with references towards a personal God.
Indeed 52 of 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence indicated a personal belief in Christianity. Furthermore, 94% of the founding father’s quotes were based upon the Bible.

Their goal was to determine the primary source of ideas behind the constitution. Their conclusion: The Bible!
“Let my heart, gracious God, be so affected with your glory and majesty that I may discharge those weighty duties which thou requires of me.
Again, I have called on thee for pardon and forgiveness of sins, for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ offered on the cross for me. Thou gavest thy Son to die for me; and hast given me assurance of salvation.”

- George Washington
MYTH #2: The founding Fathers established a wall of separation between church and state.

Many people believe this because the lie has been told so often in the media and in our public schools and universities.
The Founding Fathers were certainly men of faith, and it was the intention to establish not so much a Christian nation where you had to be a Christian to live, but a nation built upon the principles of Christianity.
American statesman, Patrick Henry said, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
MYTH #3: What a person is in private has no relationship to His/her ability to perform in public.

Poll after poll, Americans have said, “We do not believe character has anything to do with the qualification of a person for office.”
We have believed the lie! That concept is fundamentally flawed according to Scripture:
