The cross and resurrection are about what Jesus DID in the past. His return is about what Jesus WILL DO in the future. The ascension is about what Jesus IS DOING right now.

Four things the ascended Jesus is doing now:

Jesus is ruling NOW and HERE.

Heaven is not only THEN and THERE, but also NOW and HERE.
