Please see Darlene Fearson for additional information. Please sign up in the lower foyer.

FAITH PROMISE COMMITMENT
After much prayer, and in faith, our church has contracted with Fulton Bank to provide financing for our parking lot resurfacing and to replace the roof on the parsonage. The work will begin sometime this summer. This will add an additional budget amount of $640 per month. We will be starting a faith promise campaign by the end of June. God has always provided in our past and we have paid off many debts, years in advance. We believe that God will do that again! We are asking that each person take time to pray and consider being involved in raising the additional monies need to pay down this debt. Thank you in advance for your support.

IN SYMPATHY
~ To Paul & Stephanie Miller at the home-going of his mother, Linda Miller, on June 10.
~ To Rick & Linda Crone at the loss of his grand-daughter, Misty Stoner.
Please keep both of these families in your payers as they go through this hard time.

"If our faith is not relevant to our daily life in the world and in the parish, then it is no use; and if we cannot be Christians in our work, in the neighborhood, in our political decisions, then we had better stop being Christians. A piety reserved for Sundays is no message for this age." — Douglas Rhymes
hey
Last week we discussed David coming to feed his brothers on the front lines as they faced Goliath.

David didn’t know what was happening until he arrived and heard all the taunts.

Realizing this was a spiritual issue, not only a physical one, he decided to take action.

After all, God’s people were cowering in fear from an enemy that they should have been able to beat.
God always uses weaker vessels to do great things.

David was a teenager and not skilled at regular combat. He was not a soldier. Just an ordinary teen who God raised up for this.
“All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God, because they reckoned on His being with them.”

Hudson Taylor (China Missionary)
Israel was supposed to be representing the one true God for all the surrounding nations. They were to be living proof of the power of the one true God.

But here we have a false god - Dagon - the one the Philistines worshiped seemingly beating Israel’s God.

Not only does it seem that Dagon is winning, other nations will see that a false god can beat the one true God.
Whenever we have a spiritual conflict, the enemy will always remind you of all the bad things that could happen by serving God.

David didn’t let all those taunts and threats deter him.

He realized this is a spiritual battle and a fight for God’s honor. He wanted God to be seen as the victor.
The enemy will use various weapons to stop us from honoring and serving God. Many of them might have real consequences and they may even be people.

The fight against the giant wasn’t just a fight between 2 people, it was spiritual battle that God wanted to use to teach the Israelites who their God was.
We can't forget that we also have an enemy...
Recently our church has been under assault.

We have had numerous unusual sicknesses, some internal issues, the issue with the property, family issues, extreme discouragement, scheduling problems that affect ministries.

It’s no coincidence that every issue surrounds leaders of various ministries.

It is an assault on God and his plan for this church.
Goliath had ridiculed and put down the God of Israel. He was letting the world see how impotent their God was.

That is what the Israelites and the world was seeing - a God that wasn’t doing anything. A God with no power.

David wanted to set the record straight.
Sometimes as Christians we walk around, “woe is me, the devil is really beating me up”.

Woe is me, I’m here at church today, I barely made it in, nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen.

“I’m so defeated that I don’t want to go to church or do anything.”

When we need to say and live like we are the winners!
If God plainly tells us that nothing can stop what he is doing thru us the church, then why are we defeated?

To assure our victory means we have to fight.
David did not run from the fight, but took the fight to Goliath. And quickly. He didn’t wait for Goliath to come to him or allow him to get the upper hand, he ran towards it.

When adversity comes our way, we can’t waste time dwelling on it. We have to go on the offense.
As a shepherd, David trusted God to help him with the flock. He learned how to use the slingshot in order to protect the sheep.

Look back in our lives. How has God worked?

Has God healed in the past? Has he been faithful in smaller things in our lives?

Then we need to remember those blessings and trust God to do it again.
God guided his efforts.

If David didn’t throw the stone, God could not have guided it.

It took action on David’s part in order for God to finish his plan.

We can’t sit around waiting for God to work if we aren’t willing to take whatever action we can now.

And since this is a spiritual battle, we need to attack it on a spiritual level.

That means we take some serious time to pray for things.

What happened when David did just that?
When we take the fight serious and pray in earnest, God gets the victory.

Not only that, the enemy suffers a great defeat.
They were humiliated and Israel announced total victory.
David submitted to God, not just at the day of battle, but his life was submitted to God.

He resisted and fought the devil (Goliath) and the enemies (Philistines) fled.

Dover Assembly is here because God wants to use it to reach and disciple people.

The enemy has been attacking every avenue we have to do just that.

That means we go on the offense and do spiritual battle. And when we do, God gets the victory and the glory and the town sees the power of our God.
