Most parents understand the “power of influence” in their children’s lives and that’s why they are concerned.

For the next few weeks we will be investigating some of the things that have the potential to influence our lives.

Whether you know it or not, some person, some philosophy or some world view is influencing your thoughts and actions. Our thoughts are powerful and they influence the way we live our life.

The truth is, we follow the things that influence us the most.
The direction of your focus will determine the direction of your life and the direction of your life will determine the outcome of your future. (Will McCain)
Ralph Marston said it this way:
“The direction of your focus is the direction your life will move. Let yourself move toward what is good, valuable, strong and true.”

“Who” and “what” we follow will ultimately determine the future we will experience.
What Peter witnessed:
1. The miracle of the fish catch (Luke 5:1-11)
2. The feeding of the 5000 (Luke 9:10–17)
3. Walking on Water (Matthew 14:22-33)
4. The healing of his mother-in-law
5. The mount of transfiguration
So, how could Peter after seeing all that Jesus did say, “I never knew the man”.
What could have caused Peter to turn away from Christ? What could have INFLUENCED Peter to DENY his Savior. His fear. When we follow fear, we deny the truth and end up walking away from the ONLY ONE who can save us from fear.
Let me talk to you about two kinds of fear
1. The good kind of fear.
When you read the word “fear” in the Bible, it can mean several things.
· It can refer to the terror one feels in a frightening situation
· It can signify respect that a person has for their leader.
· Fear can also denote the reverence or awe a person feels in the presence of greatness

The fear of the Lord is a combination of all three.

One person defined the Fear of the Lord as, “Having such a reverence for Him that it has a great impact on the way we live our lives. The fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshipping Him in awe.”
2. The bad kind of fear:
This is the “spirit of fear” mentioned in 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV).

Here is something good for us to know. If you are experiencing this kind of fear, it doesn’t come from your Heavenly Father. If God doesn’t send it we shouldn’t receive it.

Bad fear is any thought or spiritual influence that nurtures a sense of terror or loss in your life. When you follow a spirit of fear it will always lead you away from God and into isolation
The best way to defeat the spirit of fear is to recognize the negative thoughts and systematically replace them with Godly thoughts.
If you really want to be filled with the Spirit you’re going to have learn how to drink. If you drink fear you will get “Under its influence”. Are you fighting fear? Fear is always trying to get us to deny the only One who can set us free from it.
Following fear will always lead us away from God and into isolation and loneliness. If God didn’t send it so don’t you receive it.

The direction of our focus will determine the direction of our life and the direction of our life will determine the outcome of our future. NO MORE FEAR in JESUS NAME!
