Jesus told His disciples and all who were there during the Sermon in the Mount, that their lives should count for something in the Kingdom of God. One of the ways He put it was by sharing the following:
Thinking about what Jesus has said, He calls for me not to hide what I am. As “the light of the world” I am to shine forth that light into the world which I live. You have heard that many times. Now I ask you in a different way, are you shining your light into the world where you live, learn, work, worship and where you play? According to Jesus, your light is to be seen by everyone who is influenced by your life! Everyone should see the light of the world in you. It is not logical to hide your light. That is what Jesus meant by a city on the hill can’t be hidden or a lamp that stands in the middle of the house isn’t placed under a bowl. That is not what you do with light! The light, your light, is there to shine!!
The presence of your light is necessary and absolutely needed for the society in which we live. Without your light and the combinations of light from the Christians around about you, there is great darkness in our society; our homes, work places, worship places and places of learning all need the light that is in you. We have today an evil society that claims they do not care for the light, they make fun of the light, they slander the light. But for the light in you our society would be irreversible in the madness and evil that it displays. I believe that because so many of us have failed to shine the light that Jesus gave us, we have now a society much like what we see in the movie It’s A Wonderful Life displayed without the main character, George Bailey. George Bailey didn’t want to live and when Clarence the angel helped his wish to come true he realized what a dark world it would be without the influence of his life on his town, family and friends and the life of so many he once knew. His dream was of what could have been but when he realized what his life really meant, his heart was full of joy. He received his mission with gladness.

In His message what does Jesus mean by, “It gives light to everyone in the house?” People all around you can see the way. There is no darkness there, it has been dispelled and the light shows the way and brightens the room and house for all to see correctly. He says YOU are the light! You are the one who lights the way and shines forth the truth. If perchance you are hiding your light under a bowl, that is not practical nor is it the purpose of the light, in fact it defeats the purpose. The Life Application Bible says here are some ways that you might be hiding your light:
1) being quiet when we should speak,
2) going along with the crowd,
3) denying the light,
4) letting sin dim our light,
5) not explaining our light to others, or
6) ignoring the needs of others.
You need today, to bring your light out into the open and shine it for Jesus everywhere you go and shine it brightly.

I don’t know about you but my light is BIG because it is Jesus in me, the hope of glory!!!
You would think that would be enough about the light that shines but we must look at what Jesus says in John 8:12.

You see the true light was Jesus. He is the light of the world and we are but reflections of His light. If we follow Him then we have His light in us and that light is not to be hidden from the world. When we have His light we are never in darkness because Jesus defeated the darkness at the cross and the empty grave. No darkness can overcome you because that light in you, is His light.
Warren Wiersbe says, “that this word ‘follow’ the Lord Jesus means to believe on Him, to trust Him; and the results are life and light for the believer.” He goes on the say, “The unsaved are walking in darkness because they love darkness (John 3:19-21, 19 “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”) One of the major messages in this Gospel is that the spiritual light is now shining, but people cannot comprehend it - and they try to put it out (John:4-5, 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”)”
Tony Evans says “that stars show up at night. (We know that right?) They burn bright all the time; however, we can only see them at night when darkness is all around.
Christians are to be unhindered light in a generation of people that prefer darkness. In order to get us to shine, God many times allows situations in which, by reflecting His will, His perspective, and His viewpoint, we provide light to a “crooked and perverse” generation.”

What are we to do with the instructions Jesus gives us? Our lives dear brothers and sisters are not our own, we have been bought with a price of Jesus’ death on the cross, therefore we are to be representatives of the Father by shining our light through good deeds but we are to make sure that when people see these deeds that they don’t look at us and give credit to us for the deeds but that they look at us and see that we are the children of God and that all we do is to give God the Father glory and honor to His name by our life and deeds.
During WWII there were blackouts. This was when whole towns were told to cover all the widows and places where lights could be seen. The planes flying over could use the slightest bit of light to pinpoint the place where they could drop a bomb. That is the way it is with our light; light bears witness to itself; it tells you where it is. Can people around you tell that there is the light of Christ in you?
If you have never responded to this Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, now is a great time to do so. Jesus loves you so much that He died for you and that you can be the deposit of His light forever. Come and respond to His invitation to cleanse your life of sin and give you life eternal.
To you who are believers, are you shining your light so all can see? Who is getting the credit for your “godly” life? Make a new decision today to be more faithful to be His witness through His light in you.

Dear friend if you are reading this by way of the internet please know that you are loved and cared for. If you have no relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then I invite you to trust Him by faith and receive Him as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sin of everyone in the world that they may have eternal life. All of us have sinned and all are guilty before Almighty God who made us to have fellowship with Him. But sin broke that ability to have a relationship and Jesus has restored the possibility to know God personally through His sacrifice. Please know that if you will seek God and turn from your sin and pray He will respond with His love and give to you a personal relationship through your belief in His Son and the sacrifice He made just for you. He will call for a change in your life too. He wants you to follow Him, not the world, not your own desires, but to follow Jesus. That brings a life change when you turn from sin and self and by faith believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. There is no Savior without Him being Lord of your life. Your willingness to change by following Him daily in your life will be the proof of your faith.
