From This Day Forward Week 1: “Give Me Some Space”

From This Day Forward Week 1: “Give Me Some Space”

Do you remember your wedding vows? Wedding vows are arguably the most important aspect of a wedding ceremony. They proclaim the feelings of your heart and the depth of your commitment to both God and your spouse. In most traditional vows, there is a very important phrase that is sometimes overlooked… “From this day forward” In just four words, there is a declaration of the transition that is taking place. From this point in history, we are no longer operating on our own. From this location, we chose to no longer walk on our own. In this moment, we are two minds with a single thought, two hearts that beat as one. This day is the blending of our two lives, the union of our two natures. June is the time of our annual marriage series, and our focus is not only to embrace the sacred vows we made on our wedding day, but to determine to accept it as a continual challenge. Invite family. Invite friends. Together, we’ll move toward more marital health, “From this day forward.”

4 Marriage Pillars
1.Grace
2.Sacrifice
3.Servanthood
4.Forgiveness

#FromThisDaySeries
There’s no such thing as a healthy fear of a spouse.

#FromThisDaySeries
Treat issues at their actual level and not in a reactional emotional condition.

#FromThisDaySeries
When I daily offer myself to God, I’m in a much better position to offer myself daily to my spouse.

#FromThisDaySeries
Unconditional love doesn’t equate to unconditional trust.

#FromThisDaySeries
Immediate forgiveness doesn’t mean immediate relational healing.

#FromThisDaySeries
The more you rejoice in your own forgiveness, the quicker you will be in forgiving others.

#FromThisDaySeries
My emotions will catch up when my will is in the right spot.

#FromThisDaySeries
Forgiveness
1.Confession. “I was wrong. I don’t blame others, I own it.”
2.Sorrow. “I am specifically sorry for…”
3.Request. “Will you forgive me?”
4.Response. “Yes. I forgive you.”
#FromThisDaySeries
There’s the legacy you receive and there’s the legacy you leave.

#FromThisDaySeries
4 Questions to Ask:
1.Grace: Do I lack grace in any area?
2.Sacrifice: Am I more selfish than sacrificial?
3.Servanthood: Is there anything I need to stop or start doing?
4.Forgiveness: Is there anything we need to make right?
