Jesus is a living Cornerstone
I. Jesus was chosen and precious (v4, 6)
II. Jesus was rejected by men (v4, 7-8)

John 15:20 “Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.”

Luke 10:16b “… the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

III. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ will not be put to shame (v6)

Come to Jesus (v1-3)
I. Put away the old self (v1)
II. Long for truth about Christ (v2)
III. Taste and see that Jesus is good (v3)
2) Jesus’s Church is a spiritual house (v5, 9)

1 Corinthians 1:26–29 “For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.”
3) Jesus’s Church has a purpose (5, 9-10)

Offering Spiritual Sacrifices
a) Our Bodies are living sacrifices (Rom. 12:1–2)

Romans 12:1 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

b) Our singing is a sacrifice of praise (Heb. 13:15)

Hebrews 13:15 “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”

c) Our good works are sacrifices that please God (Heb. 13:16)

Hebrews 13:16 “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
d) Our giving is an acceptable sacrifice (Phil. 4:10–20)

Philippians 4:18 “I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.”
Proclaiming Christ

“Petr Jasek who served in Nigeria for the Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) … spent 15 months in prison in Sudan for helping persecuted Christians in that country. He explained that while he was in prison in Sudan, God gave him the strength to share the gospel with his persecutors."That was the place where I learned the hardest lesson that the Lord's strengths can be revealed in my weakness," he said. "Having lost 55 pounds within the first three months, I was extremely weak, but in this physical and emotional weakness the Lord gave me the strength to share the gospel with these enemies of the gospel.""I could even pray for those who were actually beating me, slandering me, torturing me, and that's the grace from the Lord.”
