2Kings 5 - A young girl’s boldness and a hardened soldier’s obedience leads to repentance and life. To have eyes and ears, heart, mind, and soul opened to see and experience God. A God who sees, a God who hears, a God who answers, a God who saves… and with that, a nation taught the truth of the need for faith and believing, for trust in, and obedience to, a God worthy of their hearts, worthy of their lives, worthy of their allegiance… and this through a young servant girl’s faith and a pagan man’s (even reluctant) obedience - that they now both would worship rightly - God, through faith, and this, by grace - the very gift of God - presented to anyone who would believe - expressed with fullness in and by Jesus, the author and perfecter of that saving faith (Gen 16:13; 1John 3:22, 5:14-15; 2Cor 11:31; John 3:16-18; Eph 2:8-10; Heb 12:2, 13:21)
Gen 16:13
13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen[a] the One who sees me.”
1John 3:22, 5:14-15
3;22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
15: 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
15: 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
2Cor 11:31
31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.
John 3:16-18
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Eph 2:8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Heb 12:2, 13:21
12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
13:21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Vs 1 - A man’s desperation
Vs 2-3 - A young girl’s boundless faith and oblivious and naive boldness
Vs. 4-6 - A man’s willingness and a pagan king’s ready cooperation and generosity
Vs. 7 - An apostate king’s suspicious, violent and faithless response
Vs 8 - The response of a man of faith…
Vs 9 - The man simply, goes with a simple request, to be healed
Vs 10 - A simple answer, a simple command
Vs 11-13 - Pride and arrogance emerges,[1] [2] an argument ensues, and another one
● humiliation - to even go to meet with the prophet, was a humiliating act
● there was nothing inherently special, no healing powers in the water of the Jordan, but this was a call to humility through humiliation - that he would obey
● and so it was with Jesus... there was nothing special about certain waters, mud, or anything else materiel, but what would be most effective to bring a humble obedience and submission from the person to that which was commanded of them...
● An obedient act that would help that one declare their desperate state of depravity and poverty in regard to their need and the expression of faith... to lay down whatever it would be that i might otherwise place my hope and faith in - hence Jesus being the rock that would make men stumble... grace is humiliating to the one who would place their faith (and pride) in their own ability, in their need to contribute - the cross and the grace received through it is foolishness to the wise and learned
Vs 14 - A reluctant submission - an act of (silly) obedience - a change occurs, a miracle, and, more - a life is transformed, made new - a new creation
● Often what God may ask of us is seemingly inconsequential, small, menial, or even mundane...
The cleansing of the skin, yes - and wonderful! But, MUCH MORE PROFOUNDLY...
The cleansing of the soul, heart, and mind - setting off a whole chain of other, more subtle, but even more profound, miracles… eyes that (now) see God!
● Astonishment
● Humility
● Gratefulness
● Generosity
● Repentance
● Allegiance
● … salvation, a saving faith
Vs 15 - A worshipful response, a character changed
Vs 17 - A memorial constructed, a marker, a reminder of God’s gracious and loving act
Vs 18 - A prayer of faith - mingled with dignity, honor, and respect
Vs 19 - The blessing of peace… peace with God, peace with self, peace...
And to Israel, and us, a lesson in grace being bestowed upon…
● Response of faith, even a stubborn, prideful, reluctant one - but relenting
● Obedience to God’s commands… even if it seems foolish or unimpressive or unexpected
● Fidelity and faithfulness to the saving creator God, even or especially, in the midst of pagan revelries, a heart that remains steadfast

Our prayers are music to our Father’s ears, and He does answer, and really, any and all of God’s answers are miraculous… We must then be careful with what we deem as being miraculous - that God would act on anyone’s behalf, for anything, is, in itself, miraculous - and in so, our lives should be perpetually marked with the same things as Naaman’s… to be perpetually astonished and grateful that God does hear… and full of joy, that we would be counted among His heirs (Rom 8:16-17; Gal 3:29; Titus 3:7)
Rom 8:16-17
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Gal 3:29
29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirsaccording to the promise.
Titus 3:7
7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirshaving the hope of eternal life.

Our prayers and His answers ought to set us off on a joyous ride of gratefulness - that God, the Creator and sustainer of life, would even care enough to hear, let alone listen; to listen, let alone answer; and that He would answer should be a big enough deal, but on top of that, He answers, always, with the best answer - the answer we need (not always know we needed, or even, at first, think or feel we wanted - and almost never as we expected), but answer, He does - and this ought to be a delight to us and a catalyst for gratefulness, honor, respect, love, worship and service - of and to this glorious King who loves us so - who bids us to call Him "Father... Abba, daddy" (Matt 7:11; Luke 11:13; Rom 8:15-16; Gal 4:6)
Matt 7:11
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Luke 11:13
13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Rom 8:15-16
15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Gal 4:6
6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,[a] Father.”

What We Value: Generosity
We believe that God has been generous to us in every way and in response we are to bless others with the blessings that we have received from Him: time, gifts and talents, resources, and energy — remembering always that God loves a cheerful giver; taking the posture of: eyes raised heavenward, knees bent in prayer, hands open- holding loosely those things that we have been given- as to give generously.Luke 6:38; 2Cor 1, 9
