I Have A Friend Who... Wants A Thriving Family

I Have A Friend Who... Wants A Thriving Family

Our love for people says something about our love for God. Jesus tells us to love people the way he loved us and that when we love like Him, the world will know we worship Him. In this series we will be applying Jesus’ command in John 13 to love others, especially in the specific relationships around us.

There’s much to figure out with Families, but the scriptures say they are worth fighting for!

Nehemiah 4.14
Don’t be afraid … Remember the Lord who is awesome and fight for your brothers, your sons and daughters, your wives and your homes.

6 STEPS TO A THRIVING FAMILY
1. Consider the next six generations of your family (Prov 17.6)
Grandchildren are the crowns of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers

Jonathan Edwards spent time in prayer for his next five generations so he could have a line like Abraham.

2. Repeat the Gospel (Deut 6.4-7)
“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

3. Notice the Unusual (Heb 11.23)
It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command.

4. Discern God’s direction (Luke 2.17-19)
After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.

1 Sam 1.24-28 – When the Child was weaned she took him to the Tabernacle and gave him to the lord.

Ephesians 2.8-10 -
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

5. Train them in that way (Prov 22.6)
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Hebrews 3.13 – But encourage one another daily.

6. Guard this deposit (2 Timothy 1.5-14)
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you… through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.

Worship Through Giving

The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn't merely giving something to God. It's giving back what was his to begin with. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from him. The Bible says that we worship God with tithing as a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives.
