What causes our personal failures?
We overestimate our strength.
We fear the disapproval of others.
We speak without thinking.
What should we do when we fail?
– GRIEVE.

Matthew 26:75 (NIV)
“Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the rooster crows, you will disown Me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.”
– Let your small group support you.

Mark 16:10 (NLT)
"She went and found the disciples (together)… grieving and weeping.”
As Christ-followers we are always better together. God has wired us for community, not isolation!
John 20:19-20 (TEV)
“…late that evening…the disciples were gathered together behind locked doors, because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities. Then Jesus came and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ He said… The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord.”
– Cast yourself on God’s mercy.

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

1 Peter 1:3 (TEV)
“Let us give thanks to God… because of His great mercy He gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope."
Luke 22:31-32 (NLT)
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to … sift you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you… that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen and build up your brothers.”
What does Jesus do with our failures?
– He isn’t shocked.
v. 31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to … sift you like wheat.”
Psalm 103:14 (NLT)
“(God) understands how weak we are; He knows we are only dust.”
– He prays for us.
v.32“I have pleaded in prayer for you… that your faith should not fail.”
Hebrews 7:25 (NIV)
“(Jesus) is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.”
(MSG) – “… always on the job to speak up for them.”
– He believes in us.
v.32“So when you have repented and turned to me again…”
Mark 16:6-7 (NLT)
“The angel said… (I know) you are looking for Jesus, the Nazarene, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He has been raised from the dead! … Now go and give this message to His disciples, including Peter: Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see Him there, just as He told you before He died.”
– He is especially merciful when we are down.
John 21:1-6 (NLT)
“Later Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. Simon Peter said,‘I’m going fishing.’ ‘We’ll come, too,’ they all said. So they went out in the boat but they caught nothing all night. At dawn the disciples saw Jesus standing on the beach, but they couldn’t see who he was. He called out, ‘Friends, have you caught any fish?’ ‘No,’ they replied. Then he said, ‘Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get plenty of fish!’ So they did, and they couldn’t draw in the net because there were so many fish in it.”
John 21:7-14 (NLT)
“Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter,‘It is the Lord!’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and swam ashore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only out about three hundred feet. When they got there, they saw that a charcoal fire was burning and fish were frying over it, and there was bread. ‘Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,’ Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn. ‘Now come and have some breakfast!’ Jesus said. And no one dared asked him if he really was the Lord because they were sure of it. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.”
God’s mercy toward you is not dependent on your performance!

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)
“The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By His mercies we have been kept from complete destruction.. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each day.”

2 Timothy 2:13 (NLT)
“If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”
– He uses our failures to build His church.

Luke 22:32 (NLT)
“…when you have turned back to me, strengthen and build up your brothers.”
Matthew 16:18 (NLT)
“Now I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”
Questions:
1. What failure in your life does God want to use to build His church?
2. Whatever your failures may be, are you going to respond to them like Judas or Peter?
