John 17:20-23

Jesus NAILED everything that would keep us from experiencing relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Most of us have felt abandoned, rejected or alone at some point in our lives. The emotional trauma of abandonment is literally debilitating for millions of people.
Let me give you the definition of abandonment:
1. The giving up or withdrawal of support from someone.
2. The act of leaving or deserting a person.
Here is the hope I want to share with you today. Through Jesus Christ, God made sure that His children would never be alone.

Jesus nailed, rejection and abandonment to the cross. Through His love for us, He made sure that we that we would never be alone.

Feelings of abandonment can negatively impact your life.
Piece by Piece – Kelly Clarkson

And all I remember is your back
Walking towards the airport, leaving us all in your past
I traveled fifteen hundred miles to see you
I begged you to want me, but you didn’t want to

But piece by piece, he collected me
Up off the ground, where you abandoned things and
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
At Six years old
And you know, he never walks away
He never asks for money
He takes care of me, he loves me
Piece by piece, he restores my faith
That a man can be kind and a father could, stay
Have you ever felt abandoned by someone? Maybe you have even felt like God has abandoned you.
How do you respond to a parent whose teenager committed suicide or to a person that believes no one cares about them? How do you answer the person who believes the death of their baby is God’s fault and only reveals His indifference?
You may feel like no one understands what you are going through but Jesus does.
Matt. 27:45-46
At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Psalms 22:1

1 Peter 2:24

Abandonment conveys the sense of being forsaken and left alone. That’s why abandonment is so devastating.
It’s difficult to imagine how the disciples must have felt when they saw Jesus hanging on the cross.

He told them that He was going to go back to be with the Father but He did have some good news, “You are not going to be alone.”
John 14:16
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.
The Greek word translated “Advocate, Counselor, or Comforter” is parakletos. It actually means, “one called to the side of another”.
John 14:17
The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
When Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit He made sure that we would never be alone.
It is possible to be abandoned by others but it is impossible to be abandoned by God.

· Friends can abandon you.
· Spouses can abandon you.
· Parents can abandon you.
· But God will never ever abandon you.
In Christ, we have become members of God’s family. We are sons and daughters of the Most- High God.

2 Corinthians 6:18

Through His work on the cross and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Jesus made sure that we would never be alone.
