ThornCreek Church

Prove It. :: Evidence

Prove It. :: Evidence

Maybe you question the bible. Maybe you’re “spiritual”, but church isn’t for you. Maybe it’s been a long time since you’ve been at church. Maybe you’ve been “busy.” Maybe you’ve been hurt. Maybe you have your own relationship with God, but church is not for you. If this is you... Beginning Easter weekend, we will spend four weeks exploring Jesus Christ through the eyes of a skeptic. Who is Jesus? Did He really exist? What makes Him unique? What does the evidence look like? What if...Jesus actually rose from the dead?

Acts 1:1-3

John 20:19

HEAR THIS:
Sometimes we close doors because we don't want God to see what's happening on the other side. But, Jesus walks through doors and says, "Peace be with you." God is NOT confined to the laws of gravity or closed doors.
- Sir Isaac Newton, who is widely regarded to have been the greatest physicist and mathematician the world has ever produced. He's most famous for his law of gravitation, said this...
"I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by those who were inspired. I study the Bible daily. I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history whatsoever... Worshiping God and the Lamb in the temple: God, for his benefaction in creating all things, and the Lamb, for his benefaction in redeeming us with his blood."
"The more I study science, the more I believe in God."
- Albert Einstein
Francis Collins is...
An American physician-geneticist noted for his discoveries of disease genes and his leadership of the Human Genome Project. He is director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. He said this about science and faith...
"I believe in the literal rising of the body of Christ. It's the cornerstone of my Christian faith..."
"I believe God did intend, in giving us intelligence, to give us the opportunity to investigate and appreciate the wonders of His creation. He is not threatened by our scientific adventures... Science and the supernatural coexist. They illuminate each other."

HEAR THIS:
God gave you a great mind to appreciate the mystery of His creation, not to doubt His faithfulness or existence.

John 20:20

"Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome..."
- Cornelius Tacitus (115 A.D., Roman Historian)
It is not the strength of your faith but the object of your faith that actually saves you.
- Timothy Keller

John 20:21-28

"It isn't enough to know that Jesus is the Savior; I must know that he is the Savior of me. History cannot tell me that. But it can reconstruct the framework within which it makes sense - the biblical framework that Jesus and his followers took for granted. It is when we put Jesus in his proper historical context that the Resurrection proposes that he was the Messiah, that the Messiah is Lord of the world, and that he died and was raised for me."
- Philip Melanchthon, German Lutheran Reformer
