Hillside Missionary Church - Sunday Morning Service - 6/21/21

Thanks for joining us today! Whether you’re a guest or a long-time attendee we’re glad you’re here with us. Hillside is a friendly and caring group of Christians who are here to help people be CONNECTED with Jesus, CHANGED by Jesus, and COMMITTED to the mission of Jesus, and that mission hasn’t changed just because we can’t meet in person. We are continuing to work to glorify God the best way we possibly can! GUESTS: Thanks for joining us today! We truly believe that you’re not here by accident and that God has some amazing plans for your life. If you feel comfortable doing so, feel free to contact us and let us know participating with us online during this time. We’d love to get you connected with us and let you know more about who we are! SERMON SERIES: Our sermon series is going through the book of Nehemiah and is entitled, “Restoring the Broken.” Today’s message is over Nehemiah 6 and answers the question, “How to Overcome Personal Attacks.” CONNECT: We’d love for you to connect with us online! During this time of social distancing we will be posting our entire service every week on our facebook page and youtube channel. You can also view our services on our website, hmcworship.com, by clicking on the “sermons” page. In addition to that, please continue to reach out to your church family through letters, texts, phone calls, and on facebook.

Locations & Times

21567 Ireland Rd, South Bend, IN 46614, USA

Saturday 6:00 PM

Many times, when we are faithful to what God calls us to do, the enemy will do everything in his power to stop us. In Nehemiah chapter 6 the enemy tries to stop Nehemiah from doing the work that God has called him to do through people personally attacking him. Nehemiah overcomes that by:

1. Focusing on the work, not the attacks
Neh. 6:1-4, Matt. 5:11-12, Col. 3:2, Rom. 12:1-2

2. Invalidating lies and trusting God
Neh. 6:5-9, Ps. 1:1-6, Ps. 101:5, Prov. 15:1

3. Refusing to be afraid and sin
Neh. 6:10-14, Rom. 8:31, 12:19-21
Reflection Questions

1. What is your natural, knee-jerk reaction when someone attacks your character? (i.e. argue, retaliate, obsess over it, ect.)

2. Nehemiah used 3 strategies to overcome his enemys’ personal attacks against him. If someone was attacking your character today, which one of these strategies do you think you would struggle with the most to accomplish?

3. Even if someone is not personally attacking you during this season of your life, what practical step(s) can you take to prepare yourself for when someone does personally attack you in the future?

Opportunity to Help

We are partnering with Keller Park Missionary Church, located in the Keller Park Neighborhood here in South Bend, to help those with food insecurities during this time. You can help monetarily through their website, kellerparkchurch.org (click on the donate tab, then choose the COVID-19 Response Fund), or you can drop food items off or have them shipped to 1822 Sherman Ave. South Bend, IN. 46616. Please call/text Pastor Carrie at (574) 612-9703 before you come to make sure they are ready for your donation. Current food needs include gallons of milk (2% or whole preferred), eggs, and dinner rolls.

Giving

We have added online giving to our website, hmcworship.com. Feel free to give online, or snail mail a check to the church building at 21567 Ireland Rd. South Bend, IN. 46614. You can also give during our in-person services, via the security box in the wall located in the church foyer.

2020 Directory

If you would like to continue connecting with your church family but need people’s contact information to do that, we’d love to get that information to you! We have complied an “online-friendly,” updated version of our directory. In order to protect people’s information, we are not posting it online, though. Instead, simply contact us and we will send it to you. We can also print a paper version off if that would be easier for you. Please contact Pastor Josh.

Hybrid Services

In accordance to the guidance from our local officials, we will be holding outdoor services. There will be no Sunday school, children’s ministries, or coffee bar. These services will be livestreamed on Facebook, and can also be found there afterwards, as well as on our website. If you are attending in person, we ask that you bring your own lawn chair (chairs are available for those who don’t have them). No offering plates will be passed; instead we ask you to give online on our website or via the giving box in the wall located in the church foyer. We also kindly ask you to use the restroom before you come, to ensure that our restrooms are as clean as possible for those who need to use them. Thank you for your continual faithfulness and flexibility during these times.

Work Day

We are planning on having a work day to clear out and organize our storage on July 11th, from 9-11am. If you are available, we would love your help.

Small Group

If you’re looking to go deeper with what Pastor Josh preaches on Sunday mornings or just looking for some extra fellowship time with your church, a small group is starting next Sunday after service. If you are interested, stick around after service starting on June 28th. You are encouraged to bring a packed lunch. Contact Jen Arndt with any questions.
