Sermon Title: "Turning Point"
Do you feel as though you’re in a rut? Or maybe that you’re far from where you want to be...where you know you SHOULD be? The Bible tells us exactly how to break out of these ruts, and how to become the people God intended us to be. This Sunday, Pastor Ben Towell will help us understand these truths, as he continues his sermon series, “Threads”. Join us in person or online, via Facebook or YouTube.

Overview: As we study the book of Acts, we see a moment within Peter’s message that calls for men and women alike to turn from their sinful ignorance. They have reached a turning point in their lives. This is what the preaching of the gospel does. It is a summons to those who listen to turn from their sin and follow Jesus in every area of their lives. This is what it means to be a follower of Jesus. This is what it means to acknowledge Him as Lord over your life.
Directions: Today, we will examine three truths that will help us better understand the heart of Peter’s message and what it means to reach our own personal turning points.
Directions: Today, we will examine three truths that will help us better understand the heart of Peter’s message and what it means to reach our own personal turning points.
I. The point of reminding. (v. 17-18)
Two types of ignorant people:
1. Unaware
2. Unwilling
1. Unaware
2. Unwilling
“The truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear.”-Herbert Agar
II. The point of repentance. (v. 19-20)
Peter’s call to repentance was a two-part plea:
1. Stop trusting in self.
2. Start trusting in Jesus.
1. Stop trusting in self.
2. Start trusting in Jesus.
The threefold result of repentance:
1. Sins will be forgiven.
2. The “times of refreshing” will come.
3. God will send the Messiah.
1. Sins will be forgiven.
2. The “times of refreshing” will come.
3. God will send the Messiah.
Reasons for repentance:
1. A fear of punishment.
2. A heart of praise.
1. A fear of punishment.
2. A heart of praise.
“Be killing sin or it will be killing you."-John Owen
III. The point of restoration. (v. 21)
Peter is pointing out two truths:
1. The people had failed.
2. Jesus is willing to forgive.
1. The people had failed.
2. Jesus is willing to forgive.
Destination: You are a treasure to God. By His sovereign grace, He seeks to overcome your past failures. He seeks to save you from all your sins. Like the people of Israel, the people who rejected the promised Messiah, the Lord wants to bring about restoration. He wants to forgive you. He wants to save you. The question you must answer is this: Will you trust in Him? Will you allow Him to make all things new in your life?
