Spirit life is - God the Holy Spirit residing and reigning in and through the human spirit.
a) Spirit life begins when we are born again or born of the Spirit
b) The Holy Spirit resides in us at the moment of salvation.
c) The Holy Spirit reigns in us when we surrender ourselves to God.

Sanctification - The process of God making us more like Jesus.

a) Positional Sanctification (2 Cor 5:21)
i) becoming righteous before God
b) Practical Sanctification (Gal 5:22-23)
i) fruit of the Spirit

Mistake #1

Trying to receive and experience the Spirit Life from an outside-in approach. (Matt 23:25-28)

Mistake #2

Trying, after we are saved, to clean up or be sanctified (become holy; more like Christ) from the outside-in.

a) Osmosis - external modification for salvation and sanctification
b) Metamorphosis - internal transformation as a result of salvation and for sanctification.
