Raynu Thomas- emotions, loss and finding contentment

Philippians 1:4 (NIV) In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy

Philippians 1:18 (NIV) But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
Philippians 2:27-28 (NIV)
Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.
Emotions are a part of how we are created.

Acknowledge how you feel. Allow yourself to experience emotions
Luke 22:44 (AMP)
And being in agony [deeply distressed and anguished; almost to the point of death], He prayed more intently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down on the ground
John 11:33 (AMP)
When Jesus saw her sobbing, and the Jews who had come with her also sobbing, He was deeply moved in spirit [to the point of anger at the sorrow caused by death]
Allow yourself to grieve.
Jesus understands your grief and loss
Isaiah 53:3 (NLT)
He was despised and rejected - a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.He was despised, and we did not care.
God is there for you in the midst of your loss to bring comfort and healing
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Psalm 147:3 (AMP) He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].
While we are on the journey of working through emotions and loss, we can learn to find contentment.
Phillipians 4:11-13 NLT
Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Paul LEARNT to be content → So it didn’t just happen instantaneously.

ACTION + GOD-GIVEN STRENGTH ARE KEY TO LEARNING CONTENTMENT
1. Trust that He is our source + that he has the best for us
Philippians 4:19 (NLT) And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6 (AMP) I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]

Philippians 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
2. Cultivate a heart of gratefulness and thankfulness

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus
3. Fix our thoughts on what is good

Philippians 4: 8-9 (NLT) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

2 Corinthians 10: 5 (NIV) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Romans 12: 2 (NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
