CONVERSATION STARTERS
The following discussion questions are intended to help your community group have a family discussion that addresses the topic of systemic racism in America, and examines our hearts in the matter. We recognize that the issue is not a quickly-solved one, so we encourage you to spend a portion of your time in prayer for the Spirit's guidance, soul healing and redemption of our land.

1) How are you feeling in light of recent events around the country? What’s the one word you would use to describe it?

2) Who are you learning from during this time? How is your perspective changing?

3) What is your next step in understanding our country’s history of injustice and pursuing racial justice?

Prayer
Reread the Lord’s Prayer in Luke 11:2-4, and give a line of the prayer below to a different person in your group.

“Your kingdom come”
• Ask God to remove our misguided or misordered allegiances that lead us to see the world through a lens that is not first a biblical one.
• Pray that we would learn to see and value all people as carriers of the ‘imago Dei’ (image of God).
• Pray that the white evangelical church at large would not be silent or complicit in issues of racial justice.

“Give us each day our daily bread” - Pray that God would give us:
• The bread of compassion to see the pains of our neighbors.
• The bread of patience with those who we perceive are ignorant and naive.
• The bread of humility to see when we are ignorant and naive.

“Forgive us our sins” - Pray that God would forgive us for:
• Our passivity in the face of great injustice.
• Our own prejudiced beliefs and behaviors.
• Our quickness to minimize the hurtful experience of others.

“Lead us not into temptation” - Pray that God would keep us from the temptation to:
• Speak too quickly.
• Settle for easy answers or half-truths.
• Give up too easily.
