SERMON: John 14:16-31 “Testing Positive for the Holy Spirit”

“How do I know that the Holy Spirit lives in me?”

1. Has the Dead Been Made Alive?

2. Do You Hunger for Apostolic Preaching?

3. Does Sin Grieve You?

4. Do You Live in Peace and Joy?

“The Holy Spirit is yours for the asking!”
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. Review the following texts that speak to our spiritually condition apart from the work of the Holy Spirit. What do they tell us of ourselves? Are we born good? Genesis 6:5; Psalm 14:1-3, 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 5:12, Ephesians 2:1-8.
2. What is the vital connection between the Word and the Holy Spirit? What is the role of the Word of God in your own life and what does its lack or presence tell us about our spiritual condition? Review the following texts as you respond: Psalm 119:103; Jeremiah 15:16; John 6:63; 1 Corinthians 2:13.
3. How does the presence of the Holy Spirit impact our view of sin in our own lives? What will be our response to sin when the Holy Spirit is working in our lives? Review the following texts as you respond: Isaiah 63:10; John 16:7-11; Romans 8:13; 1 Corinthians 6:18-19; 2 Thessalonians 2:13.
4. Is your life characterized by peace and joy? Explain your answer and describe the role of the Holy Spirit in this. Review the following bible passages as well and observe the link between the presence of the Holy Spirit and that of peace and joy in the believer’s life: John 15:9-11; Acts 13:52; Romans 14:17; Galatians 5:22; 1 Thessalonians 1:6.
5. What is a single take-away for you and how will your life be changed by today’s sermon?
