The Power of Unity
Ephesians 4:1-6

Text Ephesians 4:1–6 (NKJV) — 1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Psalm 133:1–3 (NKJV) — 1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!

2. What’s the big deal about unity and being unified?

3. Tower of Babel

- I have read story about the Tower of Babel multiple times but a few months ago something leaped of the page at me.

Turn to Genesis 11:1–8

- Did you see it! Did you see what was so powerful that God Himself had to intervene?!

Genesis 11:6 (NLT) — 6 “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they allspeak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will beimpossible for them!

Genesis 11:6 (NLT) — 6 “Look!” God said. “The people are united, … Afterthis, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!

4. Church in Book of Acts

Acts 1:14
Acts 2:1
Acts 2:46–47
Acts 4:24
Acts 4:32–33
Acts 5:12–16
Acts 8:6–8

When a church becomes truly unified the power of God flows through them and the impossible becomes possible!

5. The unity at the Tower of Babel was so great they could've accomplished anything. The reason God had to intervene is because their unity was in a vain thing.

A. What could a church accomplish if they genuinely walked in unity.

1) There has to be a cause to unify around

2) There has to be a resolve to live out the cause at any cost

3) There has to action to fulfill the cause

4) There has to be a leader, leading the cause

B. Nehemiah and rebuilding the wall and Joshua at Jericho are examples of people accepting the cause and living out the cause in unity. They did the impossible because they were unified.

6. Unity Killers

A. The devil knows the power of unity!

B. Every unity killer is traced back to this one thing, selfishness.

7. Unity Builders

Ephesians 4:11–16

8. Churches that are growing have and are:

- unified around key core values of God’s Word,

- unified around the mission that Christ gave His Church and are

- unified around the leadership’s vision, the plan on how to accomplish living out theircore values and accomplishing Christ mission for His Church.

Closing:-THE POWER OF UNITY

Genesis 11:6 (NLT) — 6 “Look!” he said. “The people are united,... After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!

Ephesians 4:1–6

- I want God to say about this church…

Genesis 11:6 (NLT) — 6 “Look!” God said. “This church is united,…nothing they set out todo will be impossible for them!

Communion

We come to Communion, which represents the greatest act known to man to bring about unity. This act brought unity between God and man and between each other.
