Welcome to Church of the Highlands

What a joy it is to introduce you to our church! You'll discover that our passion is to provide a place where people just like you can have a life-changing experience with God. At Church of the Highlands, our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We are a life-changing, multicultural, multiage church in the Harrison (Chattanooga) area. We exist to reach our Community, America, and the World for Jesus Christ. We pour God's love into people and families through engaging, powerful worship services that offer Biblical truth in relevant and practical ways. Together, we're striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there's relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. In short, we'd like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time. So, if you are still just checking out the "church scene" and investigating the claims of Jesus Christ, thank you for allowing us to help you in your search. Or, if you are a committed Christ-follower who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at Church of the Highlands.

Today's Message (click to open): When Your Discontentment Becomes Sinful

When Your Discontentment Becomes Sinful
Jude; Exodus 17

Jude 14b–15 says, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Jude 16 says, 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires;

I. Discontentment is a Hellish Sin Because it Leads to Hell

II. Discontentment is a Hellish Sin Because it Comes from Hell

A. Discontentment is an Expression of Pride
Jude 16, 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.

Discontent people are living out the manifestation of a heart filled with pride. It flows from a heart that says, “I deserve more from God than what I got.”

1 Timothy 3:6, 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Jude 6, 6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—

B. Discontentment is an Expression of Rebellion

Job 1:21b, The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

C. Discontentment is a Fruit of Unbelief

Exodus 17:7b says, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

III. Discontentment is a Hellish Sin Because Tastes of Hell

Discontentment is a way in which a person becomes his or her own tormentor.

A. Discontentment Causes You to Lose Time

B. Discontentment Causes You to Lose Discernment

Numbers 16:13 says, 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also make yourself a prince over us?

C. Discontentment Causes You to Lose Joy

Discontentment results in you not enjoying what you have because you’re too focused and what is not there.

D. Discontentment Causes You to Have More Sorrows

Genesis 30:1 says, When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!”
