· So, let’s ask, what is the root of every offense? The answer is:
Selfishness and pride.
. [spoiler alert: Cain murders his brother over it – not a happy ending for him]
Pride and selfishness is most often cause of being offended.
There ARE consequences to being offended or hurt, not just to the offended, but to others in their life.
Hurt people hurt people.
Being offended is a decision.
Which brings me to the question, what should we do when we feel offended?
1. Pause. Do not react (react vs respond).
2. Choose not to be offended

Don’t engage. Remove yourself from the offense. (facebook)
Do not take to heart. No matter how we FEEL, we can choose not to act on the feeling.

· Act as if: Acting based on what we know is right rather than how we feel.
· 2 Timothy 2:24 ESV And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,
3. Look for your part. What in your life causes you to be sensitive to the offense?

What’s MY part in this
4. Get wise council.
5. Forgive the offender.
Jesus is simply saying, If the forgiveness that we received at the cost of the blood of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, is so ineffective in our hearts that we are bent on holding unforgiving grudges and bitterness against someone, maybe we didn’t understand what he did in the first place, and did not truly receive his grace. In other words, a Christ Follower has EVIDENCE of it in his or her life, and forgiveness it a major one. If you’re a new Christ Follower, this takes TIME.
Forgiveness is not a feeling! It’s action, or behaviors that reflect forgiveness regardless of how we feel.
6. Pray for the offender.
Now, what if I am the offender? Here are some ways I might offend someone:

· I spoke the truth rightly and they were offended.
· I spoke out of pride and ego, etc. and they were offended.
· I gave my thoughts or opinion when it wasn’t asked for or appropriate. I didn’t do something that people assumed I should have done
So what do we do if we are offended?

1. Wait. Do not react (react vs respond).
2. Choose not to be offended.
3. Look for your part. Pride and selfishness.
4. Get wise council.
5. Forgive the offender.
6. Pray for the offender.
