MICAH: HOPE IN THE FACE OF HARDSHIP - Bad Leadership and God's Promised Leader
This morning we’ll be looking at Micah chapters 3-5 in the 2nd week of our series on Micah titled, “Hope in the Face of Hardship.” In chapters 3-5 Micah juxtaposes the poor leadership of Israel & Judah’s leaders with the leadership of God’s promised Messiah. Today’s sermon title, “Bad Leadership and God’s Promised Leader” was not chosen as a commentary on last week’s election—in fact, I didn’t realize I’d be preaching this immediately following the election.

Today’s topic/passage wasn’t chosen as a commentary on last week’s election.
Micah 3-5 compares human leadership with God’s promised leader. I’d like to begin with these 3 statements about leadership:
· There is danger in placing people on pedestals.
· We are prone to hero worship, which leads us to place blind trust and hope in leaders.
· When we confuse human leadership and God’s leadership, we place ourselves in a very vulnerable position.

Our Response—I have 2 exhortations for us…
1) Don’t put human leaders on pedestals meant for God alone.
2) No matter what is happening around you, maintain the perspective that God is on the throne and embrace Romans 12:1 & 2.
