Conversation Starters - Daniel 5

TAKEAWAY: What idea was new to you in this Sunday’s sermon?
OPENING UP: What in your life has the ability to give you a false sense of security or “untouchability”? In other words, what “walls” are you wrongly trusting?
DRAWING CONNECTIONS: How does your understanding of the gospel change or become deeper when you understand the reality of judgment? With this question in mind, read Colossians 2:13-14 and discuss.
CASE STUDY: Let’s say your political party or ideology lost all power and the opposite party or ideology gained a monopoly of political power. Then imagine that that political party or ideology governed with disgusting injustice and a total lack of wisdom and ran the country into the ground. Would it matter if you had a confidence in God as the ultimate judge as you lived through that? Why or why not?
LIVING IT OUT: What might be practically different about our lives now if we took the reality of judgment seriously?
PRAY: Make sure to pray for our new president-elect and other newly elected officials, regardless of who that may be.
Title: The Writing on the Wall
Scripture: Daniel 5:1-31
Speaker: Paul Brandes, PaulB@ChristCommunityKC.org

>> The writing on the wall is greater than the wall itself.

>> What wall are you wrongly trusting?
“We must consider this truth not only in the context of this ancient account of an arrogant king but also in terms of our lives today. There are walls we too may try to erect to protect our sin from the wrath of God. We must see the walls for what they are — foolish defenses that must be abandoned for our own welfare.” -Bryan Chapell
>> The writing on the wall must be taken seriously.
“If I want [God’s wrath] to fall on evildoers, I must let it fall on myself.”
-Miroslav Volf (Free of Charge)
>> How seriously are you taking the writing on the wall?
>> The writing on the wall doesn’t have to be the final word.
>> What does the writing on your wall say?
