Part V
“Demons - Satan’s Fallen Angels”

I. The origin of demonic spirits.

A. There was a war in heaven.

Rev 12:7-9 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. 8 And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. 9 This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels. (NLT)

B. Their purpose was to wage war against the Lord and the Lord’s children.
Rev 12:17And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God's commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus. (NLT)

C. They have a hierarchy and operate in ranks.

Eph 6:12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (NKJV)

Dan 10:13 But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way…(NLT)

Dan 10:20 …Soon I must return to fight against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia, and after that the spirit prince of the kingdom of Greece will come. (NLT)

II. Demons are affecting people throughout our society everyday.

Acts 10:38…He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him. (AMP)

John 10:10"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (NASU)

5 ways demons influence people:

#1. Demons influence people through deception!

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (NASU)

Gen 3:4-5 "You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman. 5 "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil."6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. (NLT)

Vs.13 Then the Lord God asked the woman, "What have you done?" "The serpent deceived me," she replied. "That's why I ate it."(NLT)

#2. Demons influence people through the spirit of fear!

2 Tim 1:7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

Ps 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (NIV)

#3. Demons try to influence people through sickness!

Luke 13:10-13One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, 11 he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, "Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!" 13 Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God! (NLT)

#4. Demons can influence people through depression.

Isa 61:1-3"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…(NKJV)

1 Kings 19:4-5 while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, Lord," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 5 Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. (NIV)

#5. Demons can influence people through the root of bitterness.

Eph 4:26-27 And "don't sin by letting anger control you." Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil. (NLT)

Heb 12:14-15 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
(NKJV)

Acts 10:38…He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him. (AMP)

III. Jesus has given us power over demonic spirits.

Luke 10:17-20 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." 18 He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." (NIV)

3 ways to exercise power over the evil one:

#1. Make sure you’re saved.

Luke 10:20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
(NIV)

#2. Live your life in submission to God.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (NIV)

#3. Exercise your spiritual authority.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (NIV)

Matthew 16:19 (NLT)
And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
