WELCOME TO THE MOSAIC WOMEN'S BIBLE CLASS!

The Mosaic Hearts Bible Class started meeting in 2005 and consists of women from all different walks of life. We strive to be women who are gradually growing and maturing in our relationship with our Heavenly Father and with one another. Our primary goal is to come together to study the Bible and to apply what we’ve learned to our everyday lives as wives, moms, daughters, sisters, friends, neighbors, etc. Welcome to our group...we are glad you are here!

Mosaic Bible Class Guidelines:

1. We don’t pressure one another to share beyond one’s comfort level.

2. We readily embrace that we are all at various levels of spiritual maturity–we’re being transformed.

3. We agree to be very aware of how our speech can affect one another.

4. We choose to keep what is shared during our group discussion time confidential and private.

Check out Heartland Bible Church on Saturday evenings 6pm-8:30pm. Heartland Bible Church is modeled after the church described in the book of Acts (chapter 2) where the followers of Christ met in homes. It's an organic church where you can experience joy and laughter. It is a place where the Scriptures are taught in a way that encourages discussion and questions. Heartland Bible Church is a discipleship-focused church that encourages each person to have an authentic relationship with God and with others.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42

RECORD PERSONAL NOTES HERE:
Purpose Of Luke: To present an accurate account of the life of Christ and to present Christ as the perfect human and the Savior of the world.

Jews had difficulty accepting the possibility that a crucified man could be the Savior of the world because crucifixion represented a divine curse. Gentiles had difficulty accepting the possibility because crucifixion represented weakness and humiliation.

Luke wrote, at least in part, to reassure readers that the message about Jesus is true. Today, Luke's Gospel continues to assure anyone who is wrestling with the challenges of trusting and following Jesus.
Author: Luke---a doctor (Colossians 4:14), a Greek, a Christian.

He has the unique distinction of being the only gentile author of the New Testament.

Luke was a close friend and companion of Paul. He also wrote the book of Acts...the two books go together.

Most significant is the fact that Luke was not an original disciple or an eyewitness follower of Christ.
To Whom Written: Theophilus ("one who loves God"), Gentiles, and people everywhere.

This man called Theophyllis is actually called "the most excellent Theophyllis." This title is the normal title for a high official in the Roman government.

It is also clear that Luke wrote mainly for Gentiles.

Luke seems to be addressing a Gentile Christian who was questioning his faith. Certainly a new Christian questioning his or her faith would gain much from reading this Gospel.
Date Written: Luke was likely written in the early A.D. 60's, sometime after the events described in Acts 28 but before Paul's death in A.D. 64 or 65 and also before the destruction of the temple and A.D. 70.
Setting: Luke wrote from Rome or possibly from Caesarea.
Key People: Jesus, Elizabeth, Zechariah, John the Baptist, Mary, the disciples, Herod the Great, Pilate, Mary Magdalene.
Key Places: Bethlehem, Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem
Special Features: This is the most comprehensive gospel. The general vocabulary and diction show that the author was educated. He makes frequent references to illnesses and diagnoses. Luke stresses Jesus' relationship with people; emphasizes prayer, miracles, and angels; records inspired hymns of praise; and gives a prominent place to women. Most of Luke 9:51-18:35 is not found in any other Gospel.

In total, around 30% of the gospel is entirely unique to Luke.

Luke's Gospel is an exceedingly careful bit of work. His Greek is notably good. The first four verses are by far the best use of the Greek language in the New Testament. In them he claims that his work is a product of the most careful research.

Luke's Gospel prepares us to follow Jesus through hardship and humiliation, strengthening our faith in the God who exalts the lowly.

In Luke, above all, the barriers are broken down and we see that Jesus is for both the Jew and the Gentile, for the saints and the sinners alike.

The themes of Luke and Acts suggest that converts were experiencing a crisis of faith.
Key Verse: "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which is lost." Luke 19:10

Luke presents Jesus Christ as the compassionate Son of Man, who came to live among sinners, love them, help them, and die for them.

He is a perfect human and Jesus showed tender sympathy to the poor, the despised, the hurt, in the sinful. No one was rejected or ignored by him. Jesus healed the sick, disease, and crippled. His compassion reached across racial lines and broke with convention. (For example, healing on the Sabbath.)

In this Gospel you will meet individuals as well as crowds, women and children as well as men, poor people as well as rich people, and sinners along with saints. It's a book with the message for everybody!

Luke's emphasis is on the universality of Jesus Christ and His salvation: "good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." (Luke 2:10)
