Learn To Take Advice
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.” Proverbs 12:15 NKJV
Many people struggle to take advice. Teenagers are at an age where they absorb ideas from their peers or social media, and they may begin to rebel against their parents' advice. However, it isn’t just teens, children, and adults who dislike being told what to do.
In Proverbs 12:15, we are reminded that one who thinks they are right in their own eyes is a fool. The Word of God is truth, for God does not lie, and all scripture is God breathed by God through chosen authors.
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work". 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
The Bible is an excellent source of sound advice; however, many people turn to their friends. When seeking advice, we need sound counsel. Make sure the person advising has a solid spiritual track record. Look at their life as a whole because we can measure a person by the fruit of their spirit.
“It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools.” Ecclesiastes 7:5 NKJV
Boot camp (life on Earth) is filled with all kinds of mental and emotional, as well as physical, strain. So it is prudent to seek sound spiritual advice along life’s path. (A parent who is solid in Christ, a good, well-trained Christian professional, such as a counselor or a pastor.) I don’t rule out friends; just be sure they are solid in their walk and know the Word of God.
A professional athlete requires the proper equipment to train effectively. Why? To prevent them from getting hurt. So much more do we! Sound advice will help in making wise decisions and often avoid mistakes that can wound the soul, as well as others.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to be stubborn and rebel against those who offer me good advice. I know that when I reject help in this way, I am not acting in wisdom. In my heart, I know that wise counsel will help me be the best that I can be. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
About this Plan

Compared to eternity, life on earth is but a short time. The world is home to an estimated 722,000 centenarians (age 100), according to the United Nations’ population projections for 2024. That is, .02 to .03% of the world’s population. Whether we die young or live to be old, what we do in between will matter. Living here is boot camp training to qualify for heaven!
