DAY 4 OF 10

Seeking His Face

Prayer doesn’t begin with perfect words—it begins with a simple “yes.” When God says, “Seek my face,” David responds, “Lord, I am coming.” That one act of surrender becomes the foundation of a life of prayer.

Prayer is not a performance. It’s a relationship that grows through time, presence, and responsiveness. Like David, we don’t need all the answers to begin. We just need to show up.

I remember a season in college when I was struggling deeply and didn’t know how to pray. One summer, I found a little flower-filled garden near my parents’ house. I would go there daily—not with eloquent prayers, but simply to be with God. In that quiet place, something shifted. I experienced healing and love, not from what I said, but from just being with Him. That space became my “secret place,” a sacred beginning to a lifelong friendship with God.

Let’s reflect on three stages of growing in prayer:

1. Beginning: Showing Up
David didn’t begin with polished prayers—he began by being present. Prayer starts with showing up, even when it feels dry or awkward. Simply saying, “Here I am, Lord,” is enough to open the door to connection.

2. Developing: Listening and Responding
As David grew, he began to listen. Prayer became more than talking—it became discerning God’s voice and responding to His gentle prompts. Transformation happens not just in hearing, but in saying yes.

3. Maturing: Living Face to Face
Eventually, prayer became David’s lifestyle. He lived aware of God’s nearness, through every high and low. Maturing in prayer isn’t about length—it’s about closeness. We seek His face, not just His help.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for inviting me to seek Your face. Teach me to walk with You in every season—with honesty, trust, and love.

Reflection Questions:
1) Imaginative Reflection: What do you imagine David’s prayer life looked like as a shepherd, alone in the wilderness with God?
2) Personal Assessment: Which stage of growing in prayer—Beginning, Developing, or Maturing—do you find yourself in?
