Conversations

DAY 10 OF 10

A Life of Ongoing Conversation

We were made for ongoing conversation. That’s what this whole series has been about—not just words, but relationship. Prayer as dialogue. Speech as formation. Words as bridges. Whether we’re talking to God in the quiet of our heart, to a friend over coffee, or to someone seeking hope, they all matter. Because when our words flow from a life rooted in God, even ordinary conversations can become sacred ground.

Conversation with God
Brother Lawrence once wrote, “There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God.”He wasn’t a preacher or public figure. He was a cook in a monastery kitchen, peeling vegetables and scrubbing pots. Yet in that simplicity, he discovered a profound truth: every moment could become communion. He didn’t divide his life into “prayer time” and “everything else.” He practiced the presence of God until it became second nature.

That’s the invitation: not more effort, but more awareness. God is already near. We’re simply learning to include Him.

Conversation with Others
When we speak with truth and love—when we bless, affirm, encourage, and really listen—we participate in the creative, redemptive work of God. Jesus modeled this beautifully. He wasn’t just a preacher—He was a conversationalist. Whether with tax collectors, fishermen, or Pharisees, His words were full of grace and power.

A shared meal, a late-night walk, a vulnerable exchange—these are all places where God moves through our words.

Conversation with Those Who Don’t Yet Believe
Evangelism isn’t about performance. It’s about presence. As we explored in Day 9, the most powerful witness is often a humble, honest story, spoken with gentleness and love. Our words don’t have to be polished. They just have to be faithful.

God uses simple, sincere conversations to open hearts.

And So We Continue...
C.S. Lewis wrote in The Last Battle that what seemed like the end was really the beginning of “the Great Story... in which every chapter is better than the one before.” That’s a beautiful image for prayer. It doesn’t end when we say “amen”—it unfolds in the quiet moments, the daily choices, the unexpected conversations where heaven touches earth.

This may be the final day of the devotional, but it’s only the beginning of a deeper rhythm.
Keep walking with God in the ordinary.
Let your words be rooted in His presence.
Let your conversations carry His love.

You were made for communion—ongoing, unfolding, alive.

Prayer: God, teach me to live in constant communion with You. Let my words reflect Your love in every conversation—sacred or simple—and help me live a life of ongoing dialogue that draws others closer to Your heart.

Reflection Questions:
1) Deepening the Dialogue: Where is God inviting you into deeper conversation—with Him, with others, or with someone far from faith?

2) Living Prayerfully: What small shift would help you begin living more prayerfully each day?

This concludes our Conversations Devotional, based on the book Conversations by Hazen and Hannah Stevens. If you’d like to go deeper into these themes and practices, you can find the full book available on Amazon.

About this Plan

Conversations

Conversations is a 10-day devotional exploring the spiritual power of words and the sacred gift of dialogue. From prayer to cross-cultural relationships, from encouragement to evangelism, this journey invites you to speak with intentionality, humility, and love. Rooted in the example of Jesus and anchored in Scripture, each day reflects on how conversations—with God, with others, and even with those far from faith—can become holy ground. Through daily reflections, prayers, and questions, you’ll learn to listen more deeply, speak more truthfully, and live more prayerfully. You were made for conversation, and your words can create worlds.
