She Reads Truth: 2 PeterSample

In the Waiting
What kind of "waiter" are you?
As a mom, I can tell you, I bear witness to a wide range of waiters.
I have my "wiggler." She just can't sit still--her whole body writhes with excitement and anticipation.
I have my "foot tapper." She's the one who sighs, paces and looks out the window constantlyÑthe one who barrages us with an endless stream of "Are we there yet?"s on every car trip.
I have my "procrastinator." The one who has known forever that guests are coming, but waits until 30 seconds before their arrival to check off his last to-do. I love you, honey.
When Peter writes about the "coming day of the Lord," (2 Peter 3:10, NIV), he knows we are followers that wiggle, tap feet and procrastinate. But, he writes, our perfect Father does not.
With Him, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day (v. 8), and there's a deliberate reason for thisÑlike all loving fathers, He doesn't want to leave anyone behind (v. 10).
So what will you do in the waiting?
Will you wiggle, not really accomplishing anything for His kingdom, but just trying to keep yourself occupied? Will you tap your foot, not digging in to make yourself spotless and helping others to get their own hearts right with Him? Will you procrastinate, not taking heed to Peter's words that the Lord will come like a thief, when we least expect Him?
Sisters, I propose we stop waiting and start working. I propose we stop being waiters and start being servers. I propose we take this time we have been given before His return as a gift, and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (v. 18).
To Him be the glory both now and forever! Amen.
