Jesus Plus Nothing "These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them." (2 Peter 2:17) If the Living Water is Jesus and is in us, our words and our actions should be filled to the brim with His goodness and direction. But, in our world, there are people who are utterly dry themselves, without Jesus in them, who are teaching and stealing away weak believers. These false teachers preach freedom, but are personally enslaved to indulging their own senses and fulfilling their own desires (v.19). They speak empty words that are full of personal boasting (v.18), and because they appeal to things people struggle to let go of (desires of the flesh) they lure people away from the Truth. It is especially easy for the weak or immature people to be lead astray (v.14). God takes it very seriously when people distort His Truth for their own gain. These false teachers lead people away from what is true, and the Lord reserves the harshest of judgment for them (v.17). Let's take the challenge to both know the truth and to only speak the truth. Let us be women who are not easily led astray. And, because we all have influence right where we are, let's be careful to only speak the truth found in Scripture. Christianity is Jesus plus nothing.
