We all know what it's like to try to communicate the impact of a deeply meaningful, life-changing experience to someone else. Capturing the essence of such a moment in words is always difficult. We ache for the other person to understand just how real our story is and how we'll never be the same. There is a gentle, but steady urgency in Peter's words from today's reading. His encounter with Christ changed him, changed his life, changed everything, and he knows it changes everything for us, too. This is not just some good story, some "you had to be there" moment - this is reality. It is a reality that Peter experienced firsthand as he walked the earth alongside Jesus. It is a reality that caused him to commit the rest of his life to a simple message... Do. Not. Forget. Remember the truth, Peter urges us. Remember the salvation, the promise, the calling, the real. The Gospel is not just a clever story, not a fairy tale, not a pipe dream. It is true, and we know it. But in the darkness of our hearts and this world, it is easy to forget. Sisters, we must remind each other. We must commit, like Peter, to stir each other up with the truth. After all, the Old Testament prophecies and promises did not come from man, but from God. The New Testament fulfillment of those prophecies and promises were not brought forth by man, but by God. Our understanding of them is not something accomplished by us, but by God in us. Just as a sunrise turns the dark sky to gold, the Holy Spirit flips on the light of truth in our hearts and nothing looks the same. Let's pay attention. Let's be eyewitnesses to God's glory. Let's remind each other that this is not just a story, this is The Story. The Gospel changes everything. May we never forget.
