Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 262 OF 365

Spirit led Something happens the moment a person believes in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that they are sealed with God's Spirit. In other words, the Holy Spirit comes inside of us and permanently resides in our hearts for the purpose of cultivating a relationship with us. And one of the benefits of having this running relationship with the Spirit is that He leads and guides us in God's will. We see an example of this in Acts 8:29 as the Holy Spirit spoke to Philip and told him to approach a chariot where a man was ready to put his faith in Jesus. There's another instance in Acts 15:28 where the leaders of the early church had to make a difficult decision about what non-Jewish Christians did and didn't have to do. At the end of the day, they made their decision based on the fact that it "seemed good to the Holy Spirit." In other words, the Spirit led them in determining God's will. As a matter of fact, some have suggested that the Book of Acts, which is sometimes called "The Acts of the Apostles," should really be called "The Acts of the Holy Spirit," because the Spirit plays such a prominent role in leading and steering the early church in the direction that God wanted it to go. The same holds true for us today. When we run into something the Bible is silent on, the Spirit will often speak. Is it the Lord's will that we watch something? Is it His will that we eat or drink something? Is it His will that we develop a deeper relationship with someone? The Spirit knows, and He'll lead us in what the Lord wants for us. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. (Psalms 143:10 NKJV) Something happens the moment a person believes in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that they are sealed with God's Spirit. In other words, the Holy Spirit comes inside of us and permanently resides in our hearts for the purpose of cultivating a relationship with us. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
