DAY 266 OF 365

Peace's place In considering God's will for our lives, we now come to something that can't be underestimated or underappreciated: the peace of God. Let's start by defining what this peace is. In the original Greek language, peace means to be quiet and at rest with, to be in unity or harmony. We all know the feeling of restlessness and anxiety, of uncertainty and hesitation. Peace is the exact opposite of that. It's being able to doze off in the passenger seat, having complete trust in the driver. And this peace is said to be "of God," meaning it comes to us from Him and not from anywhere else. There's a peace that goes hand in hand with His presence. When God is near, peace is prevalent. We have an overwhelming sense of calm, rest, and being in harmony with Him. Now, in Philippians 4:7 this peace of God is said to "guard" our hearts. The Greek word for guard evokes the image of a sentinel keeping diligent watch over a city and protecting it. So God's peace is an active agent that plays an active role in our lives, especially when it comes to discerning God's will. Here's how it works: As we walk in the path the Lord has for us, He pours His peace out on our hearts. But if we should step outside of it, He protects us before we stray too far by withholding this peace. The sense of calm and harmony is absent, and it's an important signal to us. Peace, God's peace, has a place in our pursuit of His will for our lives. Its presence confirms we're walking in His will, and its absence convicts us when we aren't. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts... (Colossians 3:15 NKJV) In considering God's will for our lives, we now come to something that can't be underestimated or underappreciated: the peace of God. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
