Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 263 OF 365

The process of preaching Have you ever been sitting in a church service or listening to a Bible study when all of a sudden something is shared that hits you in an altogether unique way? You know that this isn't just another sermon; it's as if the message was tailor-made just for you. It may specifically speak to something you're going through or answer a question you've been wrestling with. What is that? That's God revealing His will for your life through the process of preaching. This combines two factors that we've already looked at, the Word and the Holy Spirit. It's what takes place as the Word of God is preached and proclaimed. The Spirit takes it, and in a way that only He can, makes it personal and specific to your exact circumstances. The process of preaching is a powerful way for the Lord to show us what He wants for our lives. In the Book of 1 Thessalonians, Paul drew attention to the fact that the Christians in Thessalonica welcomed his preaching, not as his own words, but as God's word. They received what he said and recognized it as God's way of revealing His will to them. We need to remember that God is the one who has chosen the process of preaching as a means of getting through to us. He's the one who has appointed that there should be preachers and teachers in the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11). Our spiritual antennae ought to go up whenever the Word of God is being preached, because there's a great chance that the Lord is going to use it as a means of speaking His will into our lives. Have you ever been sitting in a church service or listening to a Bible study when all of a sudden something is shared that hits you in an altogether unique way? You know that this isn't just another sermon; it's as if the message was tailor-made just for you. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
