Earlier in this chapter, Paul tells us that it is for freedom that we have been set free (Gal 5:1 NIV). What we choose to do with that freedom is what he continues to talk about here. Leveraging your power, your position, and your privilege to simply push yourself forward is what the world teaches. But Jesus lived a different way. We see him step down from his glory to come to earth. He showed everyone that he wasn’t here to take up a throne but to take up a towel and wash feet. Instead of pushing himself forward, he constantly pushed others ahead. Jesus laid down his life for both those who loved and those who didn’t. Now, because he loved us first, we get to show his love to others by using whatever authority and opportunity we may have to bring life to others, just like he did for us. Who can you serve today that would never ask for it?
