To seek justice from his hostile enemies, the Apostle Paul appealed to Caesar. On their way to Rome, a ferocious storm came up. The wind tossed and battered the ship for weeks. The captain and crew lost hope that they would survive. Finally, Paul called the crew together and told them this, "Take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. Last night an angel of God to whom I belong stood beside me, and said, ‘Don't be afraid, Paul, for you will stand trial before Caesar! What is more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.' So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said." Shortly after saying that, the crew sensed land was near. To avoid running ashore, the crew dropped anchor and waited for daylight. Meanwhile, Paul urged all of them to eat so they could gain strength to swim to the shore. He told them, "Not a hair of your heads will perish." He took bread, gave thanks to God before them all, ate, and encouraged others to eat. When morning dawned, the sailors cut off the anchors, raised the main sail, and headed for the shore. Suddenly, the ship hit a sandbar and broke apart, but all 276 people survived. Paul's experience shows us that God does not always stop the storm; He may give us wisdom to navigate through it.
