DAY 354 OF 365

TV viewers saw a bullfighter drop his capes, run, and leap over a wall for safety. He lost his courage and realized he was no match for that bull. Like that bullfighter, we often fear facing trouble or temptations. Thankfully, God has made provisions for His children. We learn this exciting truth in Romans 8. The apostle says for those who accept Jesus Christ into their lives, God, as Supreme Judge of the universe, declares them “not guilty.” How could God view us as not guilty and still be holy? The answer lies in the principle of substitution. God sent His Son to die in our place to pay the sin debt we owed. When we believe, God justifies us. He then sends His Spirit to live in us, to help us say "no" to doing wrong and "yes" to doing what pleases God. The Spirit also provides wisdom and courage to face trials. The more we yield to His control, the more He enables us to make right choices and do the right things. God’s Spirit within us is a marvelous gift. He respects our freewill, so if we choose to yield to our sinful flesh, He will permit us to do so. But if we yield to Him, He empowers us to live right, to be successful in what we do—whether it is serving in a church fellowship, parenting, or on the job. He can even show us doors of opportunity we never thought were possible. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be our Helper. He can help in every way.
