Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 356 OF 365

A storm was raging and everybody on the plane was fearful that the plane might go down—all except one little girl. She calmly played her video game and sometimes paused to stretch her legs. A man later asked her why she was not afraid during the storm. She said, “My daddy is the pilot.” That is the same reason why the author of Psalm 46 could write as he did. He wrote, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge.” The Almighty God was a refuge for His ancient people; the psalmist based his confidence on God’s covenant with them. God is also a place of refuge for people of faith since the coming of Christ. Based on the new covenant, God accepts and sustains those who come to Him by faith in His Son, Jesus. Today, God’s people face various storms—financial, physical, emotional, and sometimes, literal storms. It may seem as though they will overpower us. But we can say with Jeremiah as he lamented the fate of his people. “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease.” So just as it was for the little girl, so it is with us: Our Father is our Pilot. He guides us through the raging storm.
