DAY 347 OF 365

John Richardson said about the future, "There are those who just let the future happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened." We learn from John, chapters 13–14, that Jesus' disciples were concerned about their future. Jesus had just told them that Peter would deny Him and Judas would betray Him. Then He dropped a bomb on them: He said He was about to die and return to heaven. This really upset them. To calm their fears, Jesus said to them, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me." Jesus words could calm their troubled hearts just as they can calm ours. He assured them that their future was secure. He said, "There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am." Thomas pleaded ignorant of how to get where Jesus was going. So Jesus spoke in clear and emphatic words: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus asserted that He alone is the way to the Father; He embodies truth about the Father; and He imparts the Father's life to all who trust in Him. So to the crucial question, "How can one live a full life on earth and into the eternal future?" Jesus says, "I am the answer."
