DAY 160 OF 365

Experts say food shortages—or the threats of food shortages—are the causes of most wars and conflicts in the world today. Hunger is both a cause and effect of war. The same experts say food aid and ways to produce food would promote stability and reduce violence worldwide. This suggests that God’s people can help make the difference that the world needs. The writer of Psalm 47 celebrates God’s position as King over the entire earth. He celebrates what God has done in the past to demonstrate His power and authority. He celebrates God’s capacity to come to the aid of his people in the present. And he celebrates the coming kingdom of God when all the nations of the world will acknowledge God’s right to rule. Today, God carries out much of His activity through His people. God counts on His people to proclaim His love throughout the world. We are to announce that God offers to forgive and reconcile to Himself all who turn to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. God also counts on His people to work for justice and to help those who are less fortunate. Christians look forward to the day when God will unite all the people of world under the lordship of His Son Jesus Christ. Until Christ returns, we keep proclaiming God’s love and salvation; we keep working for justice so at least fewer people will go to war to get food.
