DAY 165 OF 365

Is your favorite dessert cheesecake, apple pie, or ice cream? Mine is ice cream. People who know me know that I devour ice cream. Whatever the psalmist regarded as his choicest food apparently had no comparison to his taste and thirst for God. In Psalm 63, David writes, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. You satisfy me more than the richest feast.” Out in the hot desert, David recalled the joyful times of worship in the sanctuary—the place where God promised to meet with his people. While in the desert, David remembered the wonderful sense of God’s presence he experienced in the sanctuary. He longed for God’s presence. He said to God, “Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live." Praise is the response of our faith to God’s perfections. God’s name was the ground of David’s hope. He was confident that God would deliver him from his enemies because God had a covenant with his people. He was certain that the strong caring God he worshiped in the sanctuary would come through out in the desert. Like David, when we truly commune with God in our worship, we can be confident that God will not abandon us in our times of need.
