DAY 163 OF 365

After C. S. Lewis turned from atheism to Christ, he was lukewarm about attending church. He said the hymns were fifth grade poems set to sixth grade music. Plus, sitting next to old saints dressed in worn-out clothes embarrassed him. But one Sunday it dawned on him: he was not fit to clean the boots of these dedicated saints. This truth yanked him out of his conceit, and made him realize the value of worshiping with God’s people. He realized how great God is to embrace people irrespective of their status in life. Psalm 100 invites people everywhere to recognize and worship God. The writer says, “Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him singing with joy. Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us and we are His. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” The psalm reminds us that everyone should worship God. Paul tells us in Romans 1 that when we fail to worship God, we become ungrateful and make foolish choices. On the other hand, when we worship God, we confess Him as the source and sustainer of our life, and the One who is the guardian of our future.
