## Breaking Sin > The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them. > Ezekiel 18:20 (ESV) As we read Ezekiel 18-20, we learn that Israel loved to make excuses for their idolatry. They lived according to their own desires and forgot about God. They were never accountable for their sins but always attributed the fault to someone or something else. God spoke plainly to Ezekiel that “the soul who sins is the one who will die”, not those who lived in the past. Let it be a sober reminder that we cannot put the blame on anyone else but are accountable for our sins. Until we realise that fact, there can be no forgiveness of sin. In Luke 13:3, Jesus says, “Unless you repent, you will all perish.” Today, we have no excuse for sin because we have the presence of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and the Blood of Jesus Christ to wash us, cleanse us and teach us to walk uprightly before God. He has provided a way out for us and given us everything we need to be saved. Only when we confess that we are at fault, can we find true repentance and break our sins. ### Prayer Abba Father, today we are reminded to be accountable for our actions. We confess and repent of our sins so that we can live a life holy and acceptable to You. As Your grace leads us, let us walk in the way of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
