Through the Bible: Ezekiel

DAY 7 OF 17

## Standing In The Gap > I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. > Ezekiel 22:30-31 (ESV) Through the prophet Ezekiel, the God of Israel has said to His people that they will be taken captive for their open rebellion and their guilt. The people practice extortion, commit robbery and oppress the poor and needy. God was looking for someone “who would build again the wall of righteousness that guards the land, who could stand in the gap and defend” (The Living Bible), but He could not find anyone. God is looking for someone who has the credibility, courage and leadership to stand before Him on behalf of the land. Firstly, let us examine our own guilt and sins and come before the Lord in repentance, so that we can stand in His presence. Then let us take up the challenge to be intercessors, to pray for our community. Let us stand in the gap and bring Christ especially to those who don’t know Him. ### Prayer Lord, give us the strength and the ability to build the wall of righteousness and guard the land. Help us to protect the vulnerable and to fight against the wicked. God, we stand in the gap for our family, friends, colleagues and neighbours and ask for Your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
