Walking With Jesus

DAY 30 OF 40

### Become a Servant A servant of God is someone who has decided to follow Jesus and serve Him as Master. You become the servant of the one you serve or obey. If you and I obey the world, the world becomes our master. If we serve money, money (also called Mammon) becomes our master. Pride causes us to walk in self-righteousness, thinking we are better than other people. According to Longman’s Dictionary, pride is – “too high an opinion of oneself because of one’s position, wealth, abilities etc.” Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal): * What do you spend most of your heart (devotion and energy), finances and time on? * What was the attitude with which Jesus served? * What do you think it means to “esteem others higher than yourself”? * What are the areas in church where you would like to serve? * Ask your small group facilitator or a church leader where you can start serving in your local body. Action: Think of three ways in which you can serve your Christian friends or members of your home group this week? Testimony: There was a time when I asked God to reveal to me what my spiritual gifts were. I prayed and even fasted, but didn’t get the answer I hoped for. God’s only instruction to me was to help one of my friends pack the chairs and do the sound set-up at church. After two weeks of being obedient and doing what God told me, the Holy Spirit told me to start praying over the chairs as I packed them out. As I prayed over them, the Holy Spirit told me where the people who needed salvation would sit that Sunday. I prayed for eight specific places and didn’t think of it again until the pastor made the altar call and I was amazed to see eight people get up from those exact same chairs to receive salvation. I learned to flow in the “word of knowledge” through serving and packing chairs!
