Some forty-eight cities are chosen as Levite cities with farmland attached (some of them are also refuge cities). Joshua lists their national conquests. They now have peace.
Note Joshua 20:7: Hebron was made a city of refuge and given to the Levites but put under the protection of Caleb (Joshua 14:13) who was allocated the surrounding land.
